Responsibilities of a Sponsor

Sponsors have some great responsibilities to both the community and the caterpillars before, during, and after the weekend. Sponsorship is a tremendous undertaking and should be entered into prayerfully and faithfully.

Sponsors are responsible for the following:

Transportation: You need to provide or arrange for transportation to and from Stonybrook UMC. The participant needs to be at registration promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Sponsor's Hour: You must attend sponsor's hour. If you cannot, you must designate someone who can attend in your place and pray for your caterpillar. Also, you should ask the participant's parents if they would like to attend Registration, Send Off, and Sponsor's Hour (even if they have not attended a Chrysalis or Emmaus weekend). Sponsor's Hour begins immediately after Send Off (approximately 8:30 a.m.) and lasts 20-30 minutes.
Candlelight: You must attend Candlelight. If you cannot, you must designate someone who can attend in your place and pray for your caterpillar. Candlelight begins at 8:30 p.m.
Closing: You must attend Closing. Also, you should ask the participant's parents if they would like to attend Closing (even if they have not attended a Chrysalis or Emmaus weekend). The community should gather in the dining room area of the church (follow the sign) at 5:00 p.m. and wait for instructions.
Agape Letters: You must secure a MINIMUM of 15 personal agape letters for the participant, due by the start of Candlelight on Sunday.
Table/Bedtime Agape: You should provide 1 full set of table or bedtime agape for the Chrysalis weekend. Consult the "Next Weekend" page for the number of people for whom you should make agape. A full flight is 60 people, including team and participants.
Mini Gathering/Soul'd Out: It is your responsibility to make sure that the participant is aware of and has transportation to the "Mini Gathering" that is being held just for the people on his/her Chrysalis weekend. Also, it is your responsibility to make sure that the participant is aware of and has transportation to any future Soul'd Out events.
Share Group: You should provide any necessary guidance needed to help the participant find a Share Group after Chrysalis.
Encouragement: Provide ongoing support and encouragement throughout the participant's Next Steps. Sponsorship does not end after Closing!
Prayer: Pray for the participant before, during, and after the Chrysalis weekend.
